Taking the step from recreational play to competitive tournaments is exciting but can feel daunting. Here's how to prepare.
Physical Preparation
Start increasing your training intensity 6-8 weeks before the tournament. Focus on:
- Match-simulation drills
- Endurance training
- Recovery and stretching
Mental Preparation
- Visualize yourself playing well
- Set realistic goals (focus on performance, not results)
- Develop a pre-match routine
Logistics
- Register early (popular tournaments fill up fast)
- Know the venue and schedule
- Pack everything the night before: rackets, shoes, shuttles, water, snacks, towel
During the Tournament
- Warm up properly before each match
